Mrs. Vera "Jean" (Rose) Hickman, age 89, of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on September 4, 1925, in Bennington, Indiana, the loving daughter of the late, Raymond & Marjorie (Orem) Rose. She was raised in Bennington, Indiana & was a 1942 graduate of Vevay High School & a 1945 graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Jean was united in marriage on June 1, 1947, at the Switzerland Baptist Church in Vevay, Indiana, to the late, Harold Vernon Hickman & to this union arrived four sons to bless their home. Jean & Harold shared nearly 60 years of marriage together until his death. Jean was a former Teacher at Salem High School in Salem, Indiana, Whiteland High School in Whiteland, Indiana; a former Instructor at the Franklin College in Franklin, Indiana; and a former Teacher at Aurora High School in Aurora, Indiana. For several years, she taught Home Economics at the Stonybrook Junior High School in Warren Township, Indianapolis, Indiana. Jean was a former member of the Tri Kappa Sorority in Aurora, Indiana & a faithful member of the Franklin Road Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. Jean enjoyed cooking & preparing wonderful meals for the various teams that her husband coached over the years. She also enjoyed music, reading & working crossword puzzles. After her husband's death, she enjoyed the special visits & dinners with her sons & playing a good game of scrabble. Jean died at 6:30 pm, Friday, September 26, 2014, at her residence in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Jean will be dearly missed by her sons: Bruce Hickman & his wife: Diana of Indianapolis, IN, David Hickman & his wife: Debbie of Vevay, IN, Brian Hickman & his wife: Jean of Floyd Knobs, IN, John Hickman of Indianapolis, IN; her grandchildren: Amy Hickman, Sarah LaGrange & her husband: Mike, Ben Hickman, Elliot Hickman & his wife: Laura, Kyle Hickman & Nathaniel Hickman; her sister: Virginia Briggs of Bennington, IN; her sister-in-law: Dorothy (Hickman) Stewart of Florence, AZ & several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Raymond & Marjorie (Orem) Rose; her loving husband: Harold Vernon Hickman died February 10, 2007; her sister: Ramona Hartman & her husband: Bruce; her brother-in-law: Delbert Stewart.

Funeral Services: Tuesday, September 30, 2014, 5:00 pm, at the Franklin Road Baptist Church, 51 North Franklin Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46219 & on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, 11:00 am, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment: Slawson Cemetery in Bennington, Indiana.
