Mrs. Melody Lee (Russell) Smith, age 65, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on January 31, 1949, in Covington, Kentucky, the daughter of, John Frederick "Fred" & Rudell LaVerne "Rudy" (Stanfield) Russell. She was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana & was a 1967 graduate of the Vevay High School. Melody was united in marriage on August 30, 1975, in Ada, Ohio, to Jon E. Smith. Melody & Jon shared 39 years of marriage together until her death. Melody was employed for the Switzerland County School Corporation, retiring in May 2012, after 36 years of service as Secretary/Treasurer from the Jefferson Craig Elementary School in Vevay, Indiana. She was a member of the Aberdeen United Methodist Church. She enjoyed collecting baskets & teapots & will be remembered for her beautiful smile, love of flowers, motorcycle rides, baking & camping. Melody will be dearly missed by her loving family, friends, the Switzerland County School Corporation & her community. Melody passed away with her loving family by her side at 11:30 pm, Saturday, November 22, 2014, at her residence in Vevay, Indiana.

Melody will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 39 years: Jon E. Smith of Vevay, IN; her daughter: Serenedy Smith & her husband: Mike Ericsson of Seattle, WA; her son: Kable E. McAlpine & his wife: Tricia of Vevay, IN; her step-son: John Robert Hanson & his wife: Beth of Louisville, KY; her grandchildren: Alec McAlpine & Haley Hanson; her step-grandchildren: Heather Hanson & Caitlin Hanson; her father: John Frederick "Fred" Russell of Vevay, IN; her sisters: Cindy Borton & her husband: Jim of Tipp City, OH, Laurie Barrett of Fort Wayne, IN & Dawn Ransdell & her husband: Eddie of Vevay, IN; her several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother: Rudell LaVerne "Rudy" (Stanfield) Russell, died June 6, 2002.

A Memorial Service will be conducted Saturday, November 29, 2014, at 5:00 pm, by Pastor Roger Parrott, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2014, 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.
