Life Story for George O. Hankins

George O.  Hankins
Mr. George O. Hankins, age 74, of Bennington, Indiana, entered this life on October 12, 1940, in Bennington, Indiana, the son of the late, David Cecil and Eva Lee (Davis) Hankins. He was raised in Bennington, Indiana, where he attended school. George was united in marriage on March 22, 1969, in Rising Sun, Indiana, to Mary Jane Kelly and to this union arrived two sons, John & Billy to bless their home. George and Mary Jane shared 45 years and 11 months of marriage together until his death. George was employed for the Capco Generator and Starter Factory in Covington, Kentucky, for 23 years. He was also employed for the Indiana Department of Transportation as a Maintenance Worker in Aberdeen, Indiana, for 24 years. George was an avid hunter and in his younger years of life he loved coon hunting. He loved all aspects of nature. In his later life, he had a fox hound and loved fox hunting. You could ask what his favorite meal was and he would say, "Good fried squirrel." He enjoyed talking, telling stories and cutting up with his family and friends. George loved his family and especially his granddaughters whom he was always bragging about. He liked auctions and collecting pocket knives and sitting on the front porch feeding and watching the birds and his dog, Rex an English Shepherd. He enjoyed being the Mayor of Bennington at the Bennington Homecoming one year which he was very proud of. In the last five years, he couldn't walk good so he loved riding his John Deer Gator, talking and visiting with his neighbors and riding around Bennington. He loved the Bennington community and he would never leave it, and he didn't. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle & dear friend. His greatest love was his family and will be dearly missed by his loving family, friends & his community. George passed away at 12:05 am, Thursday, February 19, 2015, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana.

George will be missed by his loving wife: Mary Jane (Kelly) Hankins of Bennington, IN; his sons: John David Hankins & his wife: Jenny of Bennington, IN & William "Billy" Hankins & his wife: Raquel of Bennington, IN; his grandchildren: Maci, Miranda, Rylee & Nora; his sisters: Mable Carver of Rising Sun, IN, Susie Scarber of Rising Sun, IN & Helen Davies of Rising Sun, IN; his brother: Donnie Hankins of Bennington, IN & his several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: David Cecil & Eva Lee (Davis) Hankins; his sisters: Emma McDole, Freda Smith, Reba Jane Hankins & Rose Hankins & his brother: David Hankins.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, February 24, 2015, at 11:00 am, by Pastor Bill Madison, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Zion Cemetery, Bennington, Indiana.

Friends may call 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Monday, February 23, 2015, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.
