Mrs. Helen (Abney) Houghton, age 89, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on February 8, 1926, in Estill County, Kentucky, the loving daughter of the late, Curtis Gentry, Sr. & Lulia (Dunaway) Abney. She was raised in Estill County, Kentucky, where she attended school. Helen was united in marriage on August 4, 1944, at the Ashland Avenue Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky, to the late, Rev. Eugene Davis "Gene" Houghton & to this union arrived a daughter, Esther & a son, John to bless their home. Helen & Gene shared 53 years of marriage together until he passed away on April 18, 1997. Helen attended the Osteen Baptist Church in Osteen, Florida. Helen was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother & grandmother. She will be remembered for her love of crocheting, raising flowers, her grandchildren & was an avid reader. Helen died at 8:10 am, Sunday, February 22, 2015, at the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Helen will be missed by her daughter: Esther Crepin & her husband: Carl of Vevay, IN; her son: John Houghton & his wife: Betty of Richmond, KY; her grandchildren: Lori Houghton, Deborah Miller & her husband: Jacob, John Crepin & his wife: Hollie, Andrew Crepin & his wife: Jessica, Rebekah McCray & her husband: Joel; her great-grandchildren: Noah, Kyle, Logan, Livia, Lillian, Aubrey, Graham, Sawyer, Luke, Asher & Beckett; her brother: Taylor Abney of Lexington, KY; her several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Curtis Gentry, Sr. & Lulia (Dunaway) Abney; her husband: The Rev. Eugene Davis "Gene" Houghton; her sister: Frances Long; her brothers: Curtis Gentry Abney, Jr., Charlie Abney & James Abney.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 26, 2015, at 1:00 pm, by Rev. Rick Daugherty, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
