Life Story for H. Kent Hendricks

H. Kent  Hendricks
Mr. H. Kent Hendricks, age 67, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on August 25, 1947, in Bloomington, Indiana, the son of the late, Harold Edwin & Ruth Marie (Uttech) Hendricks. He was raised in Bloomington, Indiana, where he was a 1965 graduate of the Bloomington High School. Kent attended Purdue University for about 1 year. Kent was inducted into the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War & was honorably discharged. Kent was united in marriage on June 14, 1975, at the Vevay Church of Christ in Vevay, Indiana, to Janet Lynn Miller & to this union arrived a son, Christopher to bless their home. Kent & Janet shared 40 years of marriage together until his death. Kent attended Oakland City College & earned his psychology & sociology degree at Indiana University. He also earned his Associate Degree in Supervision at IUPUI in Versailles, Indiana. Kent retired as Supervisor from the Division of Family & Children in Madison, Indiana, after 28 years of service. Kent owned & operated Hilltop Archery in Vevay, Indiana, for the past 17 years. He was a former attendance officer for the Switzerland County School Corporation in Vevay, Indiana, for 4 years. He was also a former facilitator & liaison officer for the Indianapolis Public School System. He was a former director for the drug outpatient clinic for St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Kent was also employed for Day Construction in Washington D.C., for 1 year. He was a member of the Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church, National Rifle Association, Bowhunter Association, American Bowling League Association & the Switzerland County Historical Society. He was a lifetime member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185. Kent was a former member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. He enjoyed being a 4-H shooting sports instructor & driving the Amish & will be remembered for his love of playing the piano, fishing, listening to music, bowling, being an avid reader, spelunker, marksman & archer. Kent will be dearly missed by his loving family, friends & family. Kent passed away at 11:00 pm, Thursday, June 11, 2015, at the Kentuckiana Medical Center in Clarksville, Indiana.

Kent will be missed by his loving wife of 40 years: Janet Lynn (Miller) Hendricks of Vevay, IN; his son: Christopher Hendricks & his companion: Vietta of Ghent, KY; his granddaughter: Julie Marie Hendricks of Picayune, MS; his grandson: Zachary Miller Hendricks of Princeton, IN; his sisters: Marion Coons of Davenport, FL, Pamela Jones of Gaithersburg, MD & Melissa Broussard of Jamestown, NC; his sister-in-law: Judith Miller Probst of Tucson, AZ & his several nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Harold Edwin & Ruth Marie (Uttech) Hendricks & an infant brother.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at 11:00 am, by Rev. Bob Cannon, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.

Friends may call 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church or to the 4-H Shooting Sports & Switzerland County Archery Club. Cards are available at the funeral home.
