Life Story for Willa Geneva Phipps (Dean)

Willa Geneva  Phipps (Dean)
Mrs. Willa Geneva (Dean) Phipps, age 86, of Fairview, Indiana, entered this life on February 24, 1929, in Lenarue, Kentucky, the daughter of the late, William "Will" Dean and Nellie Louise (Moore) Dean-Stephens. She was raised by her grandparents, Owen and Laura (Guy) Moore in Pine Knot, Kentucky, where she was a 1947 graduate of Pine Knot High School. Willa was united in marriage on September 18, 1947, in Georgia, to the late, Charles Edward Phipps and to this union arrived four children, John, Zelda, James and Kathy to bless their home. Willa and Charles shared 55 years of marriage together until he passed away on December 9, 2002. Willa was a former Supervisor for the National Distillery in Cincinnati, Ohio, from 1956-1985, retiring after 29 years of service. She and her husband, Charles bought a farm near Fairview in 1967 and enjoyed traveling down on weekends and summers to work on their farm. In 1986, they moved to Fairview from North Avondale near Cincinnati where they had resided for nearly 30 years. Willa served as Ninth District Director of the Indiana Federation of Republican Women and was President of the Switzerland County Republican Women's Club and was recognized by the party at the state and national level for her leadership. She was a former member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 Ladies Auxiliary, the Vevay VFW Post #5396 Ladies Auxiliary and was a faithful member of the Fairview United Methodist Church. Willa enjoyed gardening, cooking, adopting stray dogs, genealogy, being active in the Republican Party, collecting dolls, antiques and fiesta dishes. Willa died at 3:00 am, Saturday, June 13, 2015, at the Baptist East Health in Louisville, Kentucky.

Willa will be missed by her sons: John Phipps & his wife: Christina of Plano, TX & James Phipps & his wife: Shannon of Fairview, IN; her daughters: Zelda Mattox of Los Angeles, CA & Kathy Von Almen & her husband: Scott of Cincinnati, OH; her grandchildren: Shelley, Charly, Josh, Patrick, Liz, Eric, Becky, Jamie & Sami; her 7-great-grandchildren & her 1-step great-granddaughter; her sister: Laura Current of Frankfort, KY; her brothers: Bill Stephens of Whitley City, KY & Kelly Stephens of West Virginia; her friend: Ernest Hallman.

She was preceded in death by her parents: William "Will" Dean & Nellie Louise (Moore) Dean-Stephens; her husband: Charles Edward Phipps, died December 9, 2002; her grandparents that raised her: Owen & Laura (Guy) Moore.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 19, 2015, at 11:00 am, by Pastor Sandy Marlin, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana

Friends may call 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday, June 18, 2015, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.
