Life Story for Elberta M. "Bertie" Stevens (Whitham)

Elberta M. "Bertie"  Stevens (Whitham)
Mrs. Elberta M. "Bertie" (Whitham) Stevens, age 91, of East Enterprise, Indiana, entered this life on July 19, 1924, on Red Hog Pike in East Enterprise, Indiana, the loving daughter of the late, Willard & Cora (Cochran) Whitham. She was raised in East Enterprise, Indiana and was a 1942 graduate of the Vevay High School. Bertie was united in marriage on July 6, 1942, by Rev. Fred Griffith at the Switzerland Baptist Parsonage in Vevay, Indiana, to Dale J. Stevens and to this union arrived three children, Nick, Sandra Jo and Todd to bless their home. Bertie and Dale shared 73 loving years of marriage together until her death. Bertie was a former employee for Rieman's Grocery Store in East Enterprise, Indiana, for 17 years. Bertie was also a former employee for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana, for several years. She was a member of the New Liberty Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher for the beginners class for over 20 years and she also taught vacation Bible school for many years. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid Society at the New Liberty Baptist Church. She sang in the Stevens Quartet for many years. Bertie resided with her loving husband in the East Enterprise community all of her life. Bertie enjoyed sewing, quilting, drawing and crafts. Bertie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Bertie passed away at 3:51 am, Friday, July 31, 2015, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana.

Bertie will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 73 years: Dale J. Stevens of East Enterprise, IN; her daughter: Sandra Jo Konkle & her husband: Eddie of Vevay, IN; her sons: Nelson Ray "Nick" Stevens & his wife: Cynthia of Delphi, OH & Todd Eric Stevens & his wife: Darlene of Patriot, IN; her grandchildren: Steven Konkle & his wife: Janie, Rhonda Knue & her husband: Doug, Stephanie Case & her husband: Bill, Alan Konkle & his wife: Angel, Christopher D. Stevens & his wife: Sarah, Zachary Stevens, Kristian Stevens & her fiancé: Jerrett Caseltine & Shon Todd Stevens; her great-grandchildren: Chloe Knue, Grant Knue, Tanner Knue, Alisha Konkle, Kayla Konkle, Kyle Konkle, Tyler Konkle, Kelsi Konkle, Morgan Case, Madison Case, Madison Stevens, Landon Caseltine & Justine Caseltine; her sisters-in-law: Marjorie Whitham of East Enterprise, IN & Mildred "Mickey" Whitham of East Enterprise, IN & her numerous nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Willard & Cora (Cochran) Whitham; her sisters: Hazel A. Works, Marjorie Bovard, Dorothy Dickerson, Gladys Phillips & Ruth Jean Sechrest; her brothers: Raymond "Jim" Whitham, Harold Whitham, Herman Whitham & William "Bill" Whitham; her sisters-in-law: Millie Whitham & Myrtle Whitham & her brothers-in-law: Hilbert Bovard & Warren Works.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 3, 2015, at 11:00 am, by Rev. Ron Lee, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.

Friends may call 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Sunday, August 2, 2015, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.
