Life Story for Kathleen Cole (Shoemaker)

Kathleen  Cole (Shoemaker)
Mrs. Kathleen (Shoemaker) Cole, age 93, of Fairview, Indiana, entered this life on October 15, 1921, the daughter of the late, Clarence Olin and Lula (Medley) Shoemaker. At the age of 5, Kathleen and her family moved to Russiaville, Indiana where she graduated in 1939 from the Russiaville High School. In her early years of life, she enjoyed taking music lessons for 12 years and became an accomplished violist and pianist. After graduating high school, Kathleen was awarded the musical scholarship to the Juilliard School. In 1939, Kathleen moved to Kokomo, Indiana where she enrolled at the Indiana Business School where she attended for a year and a half. Kathleen was united in marriage on August 14, 1940 in Kokomo, Indiana, to Alvin Harvey Cole and to this union arrived two daughters, Karen and Sherry and two sons, David and Rick to bless their home. Kathleen and Alvin shared 75 loving years of marriage together until her death. Kathleen was a former long distance operator for Indiana Bell in Kokomo, Indiana, from 1949 to 1952. Kathleen was a former Deputy Auditor for Switzerland County, from 1959 to 1963. She was a former employee for ASCS Office in Switzerland County, Indiana, from 1964 to 1984. Kathleen and Alvin prepared taxes with their son, Rick for the Comprehensive Tax Service in Kokomo, Indiana, from 1991 to 2009. For several years, Kathleen played the violin in a trio for an Indianapolis radio station. Kathleen was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church in Fairview, Indiana, where she took the pleasure in playing the piano for many years. Kathleen will be remembered for her love of playing music, especially the piano and violin, reading books and her artistic talent in pastel painting. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Kathleen died at 8:41 pm, Monday, August 17, 2015, at the Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.

Kathleen will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 75 years: Alvin Harvey Cole of Fairview, IN; her daughters: Karen Kelleher & her husband: Paul of Sellersburg, IN & Sherry Courtney & her husband: Gerald of Mesa, AZ; her sons: David Cole & his wife: Renee of Rising Sun, IN & Rick Cole of Kokomo, IN; her grandchildren: Randy, Lisa, Angie, Sean, Devin, Erin, Megan, Patrick, Maddie & Alisha; her great-grandchildren: Lara, Joseph, Chris, Trevor, Nicole, Colton, Dillon, Davian, Isabella, Jackson, Ella & Max; her great-great-grandchildren: Aydn, Thor & Luna; her sisters-in-law: Marcella Cole of Fairview, IN & Wilma Cole of Fairview, IN; her brother-in-law: Carroll Scudder of Vevay, IN & her numerous nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Clarence Olin & Lula (Medley) Shoemaker; her father-in-law & mother-in-law: Harvey Elmer "Hub" & Nellie May (Newkirk) Cole; her granddaughter: Michelle Courtney; her grandson-in-law: John Knight; her brother: Max Shoemaker; her sisters: Jean Foreman & Eileen Barnhill; her sisters-in-law: Pearl Byram, Mavis Scudder, Leo Gulley, Arlena Brown, Hazel Wiley & Goldie Hebel & her brothers-in-law: Dilver Cole, Hilbert Cole, Raymond Cole, Donald Cole, Wilfred Cole & Emerson Cole.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 22, 2015, at 11:00 am, by Pastor Cory Potts, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.

Friends may call 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Friday, August 21, 2015, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.
