Mr. John L. Lock, age 86, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on September 1, 1929 in Switzerland County, Indiana, the son of the late, Walter S. and Ethel (Covington) Lock. He was raised in Switzerland County where he attended school. John was united in marriage on January 3, 1948 to Hilda Jewell and to this union arrived a son, John Dale to bless their home and she passed away in 1983. John was inducted into the United States Army on October 28, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana, serving during the Korean War. John earned the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Ribbon with 1 Bronze Campaign Star. John was honorably discharged with the rank of Private on September 29, 1954 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. John was later united in marriage on July 12, 1986 by Bro. Bob King at the Vevay Church of Christ in Vevay, Indiana, to Nina Peak. John and Nina shared nearly 30 years of marriage together until his death. John was employed for Dow Corning in Carrollton, Kentucky, retiring in 2004 after 10 years of service. He was also employed for Slawson's Implements in Vevay, Indiana for 11 years and for Phillips 66 in Vevay, Indiana for 9 years. John was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396. He was a lifelong resident of the Switzerland County community. John was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. John passed away with his loving family by his side at 12:10 pm, Saturday, June 25, 2016, at his residence in Vevay, Indiana.

John will be dearly missed by his wife of nearly 30 years: Nina (Peak) Lock of Vevay, IN; his son: John Dale Lock and his wife: Kimberly of Lafayette, IN; his step-daughter: Sherry Ann Wainscott of Vevay, IN; his step-sons: Gene Ray Scudder and his wife: Duvon of Florence, IN, Harlan Dale Scudder and his wife: Chandra of Vevay, IN, Randy Paul Scudder and his wife: Peggy of Vevay, IN, Monte Scudder of Florence, IN and Shaine Chatham of Vevay, IN; his grandchildren: Shawna McClure and Brittany Lock and his numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter S. and Ethel (Covington) Lock; his step-son-in-law: Richard R. "Rick" Wainscott; his brother: Leonard Lock and his sister: Naomi "Nan" Lorch.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at 11:00 am, by Rev. Howard Wade at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment and full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
