Mr. Allen Ray Edwards, age 68, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on June 2, 1948, in Madison, Indiana, the son of the late, Jesse D. and Mavis Marie (Brandon) Edwards. He was raised in Mount Sterling, Indiana and was a 1967 graduate of the Vevay High School. Allen Ray was inducted into the United States Army on July 10, 1967, in Louisville, Kentucky, serving during the Vietnam War. Allen Ray received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Rifle and two purple hearts. Allen Ray was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on April 10, 1970, in Fort Hood, Texas. Allen Ray was united in marriage on May 30, 1969, in Longview, Texas, to Marjorie "Margie" Maryman and to this union arrived two sons, Christopher Allen and Dustin Eugene and a daughter, Ami Lynn to bless their home. Allen Ray and Margie shared 47 years of marriage together until his death. Allen Ray was employed as a pumper for an oil field in Kilgore, Texas. In 1989, Allen Ray was employed as a security guard for the Jefferson County Proving Grounds in Madison, Indiana. He was also employed for Danner's Hardware Store in Vevay, Indiana, from 1989 to 1994. Allen Ray was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396. He attended Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church in Vevay, Indiana. He resided in the Kigore, Texas community for 20 years and in the Vevay community since February 1989. Allen Ray enjoyed gardening and fishing and will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. Allen Ray passed away at 8:30 am, Saturday, September 17, 2016, at his residence in Vevay, Indiana.

Allen Ray will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 47 years: Marjorie "Margie" (Maryman) Edwards of Vevay, Indiana; his sons: Christopher Allen Edwards and his wife: Linda of Madison, IN and Dustin Eugene Edwards and his wife: Kayla of Vevay, IN; his daughter: Ami Lynn Purnell and her husband: Mark of Park Hills, KY; his grandchildren: Cody Allen, Jesse Lee, Joshua, Treyton, Michael Allen and Lucas Eugene; his twin sister: Alice Faye Whitham of Vevay, IN; his sisters: Harriet Bovard of Vevay, IN and Patty Haley and her husband: Phillip of Goodlettsville, TN; his brother: Jesse Dale Edwards of Vevay, IN and his several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Jesse D. Edwards, died March 21, 1992 and Mavis Marie (Brandon) Edwards, died November 10, 1996; his sister: Barbara Jo Edwards, died in 1941; his niece: Pansy L. Bledsoe, died September 15, 1996; his brothers-in-law: Paul V. "Jackie" Peters, died May 18, 1976, Carl S. Bovard, died December 15, 2012 and Dennis Lee Whitham, died January 20, 2014 and his sister-in-law: Ella May Edwards, died December 24, 2015.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at 11:00 am, by Mike Danner at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana. Full military will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 at the cemetery.
