Obituary for LaVerne Self (Griffith)

Mrs. LaVerne (Griffith) Self, age 87, of Moorefield, Indiana, entered this life on January 15, 1933 in Switzerland County, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of Chester and Isabell (Jackson) Griffith, both of whom preceded her in death. She was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana and was a 1951 graduate of Cross Plains High School. LaVerne was united in marriage on July 5, 1960 in Lebanon, Indiana to WIlliam Thomas "Bill" Self. This happy union was blessed with two sons, Wyatt and Wade and two daughters, Debra and Vicki. LaVerne and Bill shared nearly 49 years of marriage together until he passed away on January 20, 2009. LaVerne was employed for the Conn Organ Company in Madison, Indiana for seven years. She was also employed as a stitcher for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana, retiring after 17 years of service. LaVerne was a member of the Brushy Fork Baptist Church near Pleasant, Indiana. She enjoyed sewing, playing card games, and shooting pool with the grandchildren. LaVerne passed away at 7:28 p.m., Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at the Aspen Place in Greensburg, Indiana.

LaVerne will be lovingly remembered by her son, Wyatt Self and his wife, Michelle of Moorefield, IN; her daughters, Debra Ann Keller of Moorefield, IN and Vicki Wynn of Indianapolis, IN; her daughter-in-law, Barb Lucas of Moorefield, IN; her grandchildren, Jason Wynn, Cory (Mary) Wynn, Carrie (Scott) Reed, Candice (Eddie) Aguilar, Kimberly (Nicholas) Barkman, Andy (Shelby) Lucas, Kyle (Shauna) Self and Willie (Sydney) Self; her great-grandchildren, Cooper, Grayson, Beckett, Ava, Weston, Archer, Adeleigh and Case; her brother, Eugene Griffith and his wife, Nancy of Madison, IN; her sisters, Alberta Waren of Indianapolis, IN, Carolyn Wolf of Indianapolis, IN, Louise Smith of Madison, FL, Joan Wright of Indianapolis, IN and Lucille Shoemaker and her husband, Bill of Indianapolis, IN; her brother-in-law, Kay Riley of Fairland, IN and her numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Isabell (Jackson) Griffith; her husband, William Thomas "Bill" Self; her son, Wade Tyler Self; her brothers, Charles Edward and James Chester Griffith; her sister, Marilyn Riley; her sons-in-law, Ronnie Darrell Keller and Birley Wynn; her brothers-in-law, Douglas Wolf, Glen Waren, Robert Smith and John Wright.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
