Obituary for Darrel Edwin Chase

Mr. Darrel Edwin Chase, age 87, of Fairview, Indiana, entered this life on December 1, 1932 in Switzerland County, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Herschel Lawrence and Ethel Lucille (Cleeter) Chase. He was raised on Aaron Road where he attended the one room school house next door and attended Vevay High School. Darrel was united in marriage to Betty Jean Scott on August 18, 1953 in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. This happy union was blessed with two sons, Jerry Dale and Jack Lee. Darrel and Betty shared over 66 loving years of marriage together until his death. He was employed for US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana and for the Stone Quarry in Cross Plains, Indiana. Darrel was inducted into the United States Army on March 31, 1953 in Indianapolis, Indiana, serving during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. Darrel was honorably discharged with the rank of Private 2nd Class on March 4, 1955 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Darrel was employed from 1951 to 1953 for Seagram's Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and after serving his country he returned to Seagram's in 1955 retiring in 1987 after 32 years of service. Darrel farmed all of his life on the family farm raising cows, tobacco, soy beans and corn. He enjoyed playing euchre and rook, shooting guns and attending tractor pulls. Darrel was a devoted family man and will be deeply missed by his loving family. Darrel passed away at 5:15 a.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at The Waters of Rising Sun in Rising Sun, Indiana.

Darrel will be missed by his loving wife, Betty Jean (Scott) Chase of Fairview, IN; his daughter-in-law, Jill L. Chase of Fairview, IN; his grandchildren, Tina Girton and her husband, Jerry of Vevay, IN, Cassandra Chase of Pleasant, IN, Crystal Richmer and her husband, Andy of Madison, IN and Cayla Rogers and her husband, Ben of Bennington, IN; his great-grandchildren, Christopher Girton and his fiancée, Caroline King, Sam Girton and his companion, Moira Delgado, Carson Byrd, Caleb Byrd, Jack Richmer, Elsie Rogers and Ada Rogers; his great-great-grandchild, Elias Daniel Len Girton; his sister, Marietta Crandell of Moorefield, IN; his niece, Connie Purdum of Arvada, CO and his nephew, Gwenn Dale Stevenson and his wife, Sharon of Munfordville, KY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel Lawrence Chase, died September 17, 1986 and Ethel Lucille (Cleeter) Chase, died July 19, 1993; his sons, Jerry Dale Chase, died February 24, 1968 and Jack Lee Chase, died July 11, 2016 and his nephew, James Daryl "Jamie" Stevenson, died April 7, 2019.

Friends may call 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 10, 2020, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 11, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., by Rev. Tom Rogers, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment and full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
