Obituary for David C. Hewitt

Mr. David C. Hewitt, age 82 of near Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on January 6, 1941 at 122 6th Street in Carrollton, Kentucky. He was the loving son of Stanley W. and Mary Etta (Hudgins) Hewitt. David was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church. David graduated from Carrollton High School in 1959. With help from his sister, Stella, he attended Mayo State Vocational School where he learned auto mechanics and received a diploma in welding. He started his working life raking leaves, mowing grass and making and selling pot holders. Anything to make a nickel! David worked for Young's Market after school and on Saturdays. He was a welder at The Williamson Company, a master mechanic for Dow Corning where he retired in 1995. He later worked for Amor Metal and Dave Ebanez as a multi-skilled contractor at Dow Corning. David was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Tingle on December 14, 1962 in Brooksburg, Indiana. This happy union of 54 years was blessed with a son, Steven Gary and a daughter, Tracy Lee. David enjoyed working on vehicles, yard work and watching Kentucky basketball. He loved aggravating his grandchildren! David also enjoyed doing for others, often times buying dinner for people he didn't even know in memory of his wife, Shirley Ann. David passed away with his loving family by his side at 8:56 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at his residence.

David will be missed by his son, Steven Gary Hewitt and his wife, Jane of Camden Wyoming, DE; his daughter, Tracy Lee Nelson and her husband, Clayton of Louisville, KY; his grandchildren, Lori Hewitt, Travis Hewitt and his wife, Amanda, Cody (Kalin) Nelson and Brandi (Chase) Nelson; his great-grandchildren, Sophia and Lillian Hewitt and Waylon Nelson; his brother, Gene Hewitt and his wife, Sharon of Taylorsville, KY; his sisters, Norma Martin of Carrollton, KY, Ruth Proctor of Carrollton, KY, Stella Banks and her husband, Steve of near Vevay, IN and Jean Ann Patterson and her husband, Ray of Marengo, OH; his sisters-in-law, Wanda Hewitt of Carrollton, KY, Barb Tingle of Milan, IN and Belva Tingle of Madison, IN; his brother-in-law, Richard Taylor of Milan, IN and his numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley W. Hewitt; his mother, Mary Etta (Hudgins) Hewitt; his wife, Shirley Ann (Tingle) Hewitt, died January 28, 2017 and his brothers, Claude B. Hewitt, Stanley Hewitt and Danny Hewitt.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
