Obituary for Dennis Wayne Powers
Mr. Dennis Wayne Powers, age 60, of Bloomington, Indiana, formerly of Switzerland County, Indiana, entered this life on October 23, 1959 in Madison, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Albert Owen "Buster" Powers, Sr. and Jerri A. (Scranton) Powers. He was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana and was a 1979 graduate of the Switzerland County High School. He studied astronomy at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Dennis was united in marriage to Annetta "Bernice" Kee on September 15, 1997 in Sevierville, Tennessee. Dennis and Bernice shared nearly 22 years of marriage together until she passed away on January 15, 2019. Dennis was employed as the manager for Bob Evans for four years and was a manager for York Steak House for a few years in Bloomington, Indiana. He was employed in food and beverage for a nursing home in Bloomington, Indiana. Dennis was also employed as the food service director for Garden Villa Nursing Home in Bloomington, Indiana, retiring after several years of service due to his health. Dennis attended the Great Harvest Ministry in Bloomington, Indiana. Dennis enjoyed fishing, looking at the stars and was an avid Star Trek fan and collecting memorabilia. Dennis passed away Friday July 24, 2020, at the IU Health Hospital in Bloomington, Indiana.
Dennis is survived by his sister, Dianna Powers of Vevay, IN; his brothers, Albert O. Powers, Jr. and his wife, Angela of Vevay, IN, Mark Powers and his wife, Patty of Madison, IN and Michael Powers and his wife, Kandy of Madison, IN; his nieces and nephews, Ashley Powers, Emily Lovins, Braxton Powers, Coltin Powers, Amber Powers, Andrew Powers and Courtney Powers; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Harlan, Woodrow and Reba; his aunts and uncles, Lula Belle and Donald Thomas of Patriot, IN, Ruby Delores Rowlett of Madison, IN, Donnie and Wanda Scranton of Fairview, IN and Harold and Louisa Scranton of Fairview, IN; his several cousins; his step-children, Kim Kent of Bloomington, IN and Kath Kent and her wife, Shaunte McCool-Kent of Indianapolis, IN and Robert Joseph Gilbert of Bloomington, IN; his 8-step-grandchildren and 3-step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Owen "Buster" Powers, Sr. and Jerrie A. (Scranton) Powers; his wife, Annetta "Bernice" (Kee) Powers; his niece, Danielle Nicole Powers; his step-son, Douglas Steven Gilbert and several aunts and uncles.
