Obituary for Donald Alan "Donnie" Wilson

Mr. Donald Alan "Donnie" Wilson, age 70, of Madison, Indiana, formerly of Vevay, Indiana, passed away at 6:04 p.m., Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at the VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Donnie entered this life on April 30, 1951 in Madison, Indiana. He was the son of the late, William James and Catherine Velma "Rene" (Stoner) Wilson. Donnie was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana and was a 1969 graduate of the Switzerland County High School. Donnie was inducted into the United States Air Force on February 8, 1973 in Louisville, Kentucky. He rose to the rate of Staff Sergeant and served as a weapon control systems technician for six years. He was awarded the Air Force Longevity Service Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster and the National Defense Service Medal. Donnie was honorably discharged on February 7, 1979 at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia. He was united in marriage on June 23, 2001 in Lamb, Indiana to Nancy McKay. This happy blended family was blessed with four children, Stacey, April, Brian and Chad. Donnie and Nancy shared over 20 years of marriage together until his passing. Donnie was employed as an electronic technician for the Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison, Indiana for eight years. He also owned and operated Wilson Cable Services for 10 years. Donnie was a lifelong member of the Union Baptist Church in Lamb, Indiana and was ordained as a deacon on October 25, 2009. He was also an active member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185, to which he took great honor and pride in. He always looked forward to "Lunch at the legion" with Bob Reed and socializing with his friends. Donnie enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as, four-wheelers, gardening, playing cards and raising quail. Donnie was a lifelong resident of the Switzerland County community. Donnie battled diabetes since the age of 33, and in 2005 he underwent a double organ transplant surgery, receiving a new kidney and pancreas. He lived an eventful, wonderful life and cherished each day to the fullest.

Donnie leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Nancy (McKay) Wilson of Madison, IN; his daughters, Stacey Lynn Penick and her husband, Trevis of Bennington, IN and April Janelle Mahoney and her husband, Brian of Lamb, IN; his step-sons, Brian Browning of East Enterprise, IN and Chad Browning of Hanover, IN; his grandchildren, Meagan Kilborn and her husband, Zack, Brad Wilson and Colton Penick; his great-grandchildren, Masen Kilborn, Zaiden Kilborn and Zoe Wilson; his step-grandchildren, Ciera, Cassandra, Branden and Karissa; his step-great-grandchildren, Braedon, Braelon, Addison and Benny; his brothers, Lawrence Joseph "Larry" Wilson of Vevay, IN and David Wayne "Dave" Wilson and his wife, Sharon of Madison, IN; his several nieces, nephews and cousins; his longtime dear friend and military buddy, Derf Garner and other numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William James and Catherine Velma "Rene" (Stoner) Wilson; his brother, James William "Jim" Wilson; his nephew, Larry Dean Wilson; his sister-in-law, Joan Wilson and lifelong friend, Robert "Bob" Reed.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., by Rev. Mike Barnes, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment and Full Military Rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Madison, Indiana.
