Obituary for Donna Sue Scudder Hughes (Flood)
Mrs. Donna Sue (Flood) Scudder Hughes, age 68, of Rising Sun, Indiana, entered this life on October 28, 1951 in Madison, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late, Sterling and Alleene (Burnett) Flood. She was raised in Patriot, Indiana on North Bend Farms and was a 1969 graduate of Rising Sun High School. In 1987, Donna received her bachelor's degree in nursing from College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio. Donna was united in marriage to the late, Dearold Lee Scudder on September 3, 1976 in Trimble County, Kentucky. Donna and Dearold shared nearly 20 years of marriage together until he passed away on February 3, 1996. Donna was later united in marriage to Wayne Hartman Hughes on June 30, 1996. Donna was employed in the intensive care unit as a registered nurse for King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana, retiring after 22 years of service. Donna resided in the Switzerland and Ohio County communities all of her life. She held membership in the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Bear Branch, Indiana. Donna enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Bengals and Bearcats and raising tobacco and cutting wood with her husband, Wayne. She also enjoyed quilting, cross stitching and crocheting afghans. Donna passed away surrounded by her loving family at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, December 7, 2019, at her residence.
Donna will be missed by her husband of 23 years, Wayne H. Hughes of Rising Sun, IN; her daughters, Karen Sue Evans of Irvine, KY and Bobbie Jo Turner and her husband, David of Rising Sun, IN; her step-son, Toby Hughes and his wife, Jacque of Rising Sun, IN; her grandchildren, Karla Sue Kane and her husband, Michael, Kimberly Alleene Grubb, Briar Sterling Miller and Joseph Samuel Evans; her great-grandchildren, Samuel, Damien, Khloe and Kelsie; her step-grandchildren, Brianne Hughes and Caleb Hughes; her sister, Joy Flood of Rising Sun, IN and her several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sterling Flood, died June 20, 1997 and Alleene (Burnett) Flood, died April 16, 1993; her husband, Dearold Lee Scudder, died February 3, 1996; her son, Brian Lee Scudder, died March 7, 1999 and her brothers, Robert Earl "Bob" Flood, died April 8, 1996 and Melvin G. Flood, died August 4, 2012.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., by Rev. Mike Jones, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment will follow in the Olive Branch Cemetery, Bear Branch, Indiana.
