Obituary for Edward Leo Hammond

Mr. Edward Leo Hammond, age 86, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on May 8, 1934 in Owen County, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Herbert and Nora (McCain) Hammond. He was raised in Owen County, Kentucky where he attended school. Leo was united in marriage on December 19, 1953 in East Enterprise, Indiana to Mariam Ellis and they shared 15 years of marriage together. He was later united in marriage to Gladys E. Hinman on December 18, 1969. Leo and Gladys shared nearly 31 years of marriage together until she passed away on May 27, 2000. Leo was employed for Stedman Foundry in Aurora, Indiana for several years until closing. He was also employed for Bob Fehrman Realty for several years. Leo was later employed as a janitor for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana for 10 years. Leo enjoyed fishing, especially cat fishing at night and hunting. Leo passed away at 5:35 a.m., Monday, November 23, 2020, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana.

Leo is survived by his daughters, Sharon Kidwell of Indianapolis, IN and Karen Peters and her husband, Dennis of Seymour, IN; his grandchildren, Heather Harris and her husband, Gabe and Brandon Peters and his wife, Kim; his great-grandchildren, Cooper James Harris and Emerson Ann Harris; his half-brother, Clarence Clifton; his half-sister, Anna New and his sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Shadday of Vevay, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Hammond, died January 3, 1947 and Nora (McCain) Hammond, died May 28, 1985; his wife, Gladys E. (Hinman) Hammond, died May 27, 2000; his son-in-law, Robert "Gary" Kidwell, died September 7, 2014; his brother, Estil Eugene Hammond, died March 14, 2006 and Larry Wayne Hammond, died February 25, 2018 and Bernard Ray Hammond, died April 27, 2009.
