Mr. Francis DeWayne Smith, age 80, of Patriot, Indiana, entered this life on December 30, 1940 in Gaston, Indiana. He was the son of the late Achson Meredith and Mable Florence (Pursifull) Smith. He was raised in Delaware County, Indiana and was a 1960 graduate of the Daleville High School. Francis was united in marriage on November 20, 1960 in Delaware County, Indiana to Evelyn Ruth Bowman. This happy union was blessed with two children, Susan and Steven. Francis and Evelyn shared 61 loving years of marriage together until his death. Prior to moving to Switzerland County, the family resided in Oakville, Indiana from 1974-1986 and Cadiz, Indiana for 10 years. Francis was a former welder for Westinghouse (Asea Brown Bovery) in Muncie, Indiana for 32 years. He was later employed part-time for Castle Ford Tractor Sales in New Castle, Indiana for 15 years, while also farming and milking cows in Cadiz, Indiana. In 1986, the family moved to Patriot, Indiana where he farmed and enjoyed raising cattle and tobacco. He was employed as a fork lift operator for North American Stainless in Ghent, Kentucky for several years. He was a member of the Corinth Christian Church Evangelical United Brethren Church. He was a 50+ year member of the Whitney Masonic Lodge #229 F&AM in Burlington, Indiana, as well as, the Order of the Eastern Star #116 in New Castle, Indiana. In his early years, Francis enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his wife. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening, boating, camping and animals. Francis passed away at 12:52 a.m., Sunday, December 12, 2021, at The Water's of Rising Sun in Rising Sun, Indiana.

Francis will be missed by his wife, Evelyn Ruth (Bowman) Smith of Patriot, IN; his daughter, Susan E. Smith of Patriot, IN; his son, Steven D. Smith of Vevay, IN; his grandchildren, Derek Smith and Lauren Faulkner and her husband, Preston and his several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Achson Meredith and Mable Florence (Pursifull) Smith; his sister, Guenivere Joan Chappell; his brother, Jackie Leon Smith, Sr. and his nephews, Jackie Leon Smith, Jr., Jerry Ray Smith and Dale Kenneth Chappell.

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

A Celebration of his Life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow at a later date in the Gardens of Memory in Muncie, Indiana.
