Obituary for Gertrude Voris (Hughes)
Mrs. Gertrude (Hughes) Voris , age 76, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on May 2, 1943 in Trimble County, Kentucky. She was the loving daughter of the late Theodore J. "Ted" and Mary Jo (Meadows) Hughes. She was raised in Switzerland County where she was a 1961 graduate of Vevay High School. She attended classes at Ivy Tech in Madison, Indiana to become a book keeper. Gertrude was united in marriage on April 20, 1962 at the Mt. Sterling Baptist Church to the late Donald William Voris. This happy union was blessed with two sons, Glenn and Michael and two daughters, Mary and Kelly. Gertrude and Donald shared over 50 years of marriage together until he passed away on December 31, 2012. Gertrude was employed for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana for 38 years. She was also employed for Dorman Products for 10 years and as a dish washer for Dan's Marina Restaurant in Warsaw, Kentucky. Gertrude held membership in the Cross Plains Church of Christ in Cross Plains, Indiana and resided all of her life in the Switzerland County community. She enjoyed reading and crocheting and will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends. Gertrude passed away at 10:36 p.m., Monday, January 6, 2020, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana.
Gertrude will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Glenn Voris and his wife, Pam of East Enterprise, IN and Michael Voris and his wife, Connie of Versailles, IN; her daughters, Mary Skaggs and her husband, Cecil of Vevay, IN and Kelly Fitzner and her husband, Scott of Appomattox, VA; her grandchildren, William, Richard, Rebekah, Brady, Deanna, Joseph, Stephen, Jonathen, Timothy, Brandon, Rachel, Rebecca, Adam, Nicholas and Naomi; her several-great-grandchildren; her brothers, Wayne Hughes of Rising Sun, IN and Nathan Hughes and his wife, Donna of Vevay, IN; her sisters, Margaret Stegemiller of Rising Sun, IN and Mildred Fleek and her husband, Leroy of North Vernon, IN; her sister-in-law, Crystal Mae (Voris) Peters of Vevay, IN; her brother-in-law, Terry Voris of Madison, IN and her several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death her parents, Theodore J. "Ted" Hughes, died March 23, 1980 and Mary Jo (Meadows) Hughes, died January 11, 1998; her husband, Donald William Voris, died December 31, 2012; her brother, Ralph Hughes, died April 20, 2003; her brother-in-law, Harris Junior Stegemiller, died March 29, 2015 and her sisters-in-law, Betty Mardelle (Reese) Hughes, died December 4, 2018 and Donna Sue (Flood) Scudder Hughes, died December 7, 2019.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 10, 2020, at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor Logan Fugate, at the Cross Plains Church of Christ, 2462 East County Road 1050 South, Cross Plains, Indiana 47017.
Interment will follow in the Salem Cemetery, Cross Plains, Indiana.
