Obituary for James "Jim" Gillet

Mr. James Robert "Jim" Gillet, age 65, of Lamb, Indiana, entered this life on October 29, 1957 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the loving son of the late, Charles Carroll and Natalie Ann (Schauroth) Gillet. He was raised in Royal Oak, Michigan and was a 1976 graduate of Rochester High School. Jim attended the University of Michigan, where he studied medicine history and played on the football team. Jim was inducted into the United States Navy on April 2, 1980 in Detroit, Michigan. He received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon and the Navy Achievement Medal. He served as an Electroneurodiagnostic Technician and served in the Desert Storm. Jim was honorably discharged with the rank of Hospital Corpsman on May 12, 1992 in Pensacola, Florida. On October 27, 1984, Jim was united in marriage to Sherrill Marie Franc in San Diego, California. Jim was a former firefighter for Avon Township in Michigan for several years. He was a former Reserve Sheriff in Oakland County, Michigan for a few years. Jim was later employed as a paramedic for Star Ambulance Service in Michigan. Jim also served as a chef for various restaurants in Michigan for several years. Jim and his family lived in Rochester, Michigan, San Diego, California and Pensacola, Florida for several years before moving to Louisville, Kentucky and later to Lamb, Indiana, where he resided until his passing. Jim had a passion for cooking and loved cooking for his family and friends. He enjoyed taking his dog, Milly on walks to the river, traveling, mowing grass, and watching the Food Network in his spare-time for new dishes and recipes. Jim passed away at 6:52 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2023, at his residence.

Jim will be missed by his wife, Sherrill Marie (Franc) Gillet of Lamb, Indiana; his daughter, Angela Peters and her husband, Justin of Madison, Indiana; his son, Scott Gillet and his wife, Becky of Imlay, Michigan; his grandchildren, Tyler, Miranda and Jonah; his brother, Marty Gillet and his wife, Laurie of Ketchikan, Alaska; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Veronica and Clent Morgan of Phoenix, Arizona; his nieces and nephews; his fur companions, Milly, Sally, Zachary and Malachi and his grand-dogs and grand-cats, Fred, Donald, Jo Jo, Norman, Penny, Sonny, Phil and Lil;

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Carroll Gillet; his mother, Natalie Ann (Schauroth) Gillet; his brothers, Tim and Mike Gillet, his sister, Aimee Maddox; his nephew, Kyle Maddox; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Shelia Franc and his grand-cat, Freddy.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor Jerry Wheeler, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 at the funeral home.
