Mrs. Jane (Hamilton) Monroe, age 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 21, 2019 due to God’s mercies, the compassionate care of Westminster Oaks and Big Bend Hospice following a stroke on January 14th. She was born on April 29, 1923 as Ella Jane Hamilton in Albemarle, North Carolina to Fuchsia and Iron Lee Hamilton. She was the oldest daughter of seven children. Jane met her future husband, Harold Bertram Monroe, while attending God’s Bible School in Cincinnati, Ohio. They were married in 1943 and served together as Harold pastored Wesleyan churches in Ohio and Iowa for over fifty years while they raised three children. Jane was an extraordinary pastor’s wife, school teacher, homemaker and mother. She loved baking (famous for her yeast rolls), sewing, music and crafting. Jane and Harold moved to Tallahassee in 2001 to be close to family. In 2005 they joined Westminster Oaks and experienced the benefits of living in fellowship and support at all levels of care; independent, assisted living, rehabilitation and skilled nursing.
