Obituary for John Harvey Lock Jr.
Mr. John Harvey Lock, Jr., age 81, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on December 5, 1938 in Switzerland County, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late John Harvey Lock, Sr. and Aileen (Lothridge) Lock. He was raised in Vevay, Indiana where he was a 1956 graduate of the Vevay High School. John was united in marriage on March 20, 1959 at the Carrollton Christian Church in Carrollton, Kentucky to the late Bonnie Jean Purnell. This happy union was blessed with four sons. John and Bonnie shared nearly 55 years of marriage together until she passed away on February 28, 2014. John was a former police officer for the town of Vevay for a few years. On December 31, 1973, John was employed in maintenance for US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana until December 17, 1999. He was later employed in security for Belterra Casino & Resort in Florence, Indiana, from January 24, 2000 to 2013. John was a former precinct committeeman for the Democratic Party for several years. John worked for the Switzerland County Emergency Medical Service for 17 years and volunteered his time for the Jeff Craig Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed sports especially golf and spending time with his grandchildren. John loved collecting and watching John Wayne movies. John passed away at 6:37 a.m., Saturday, December 7, 2019, at the Community Hospital in Fairfax, Missouri.
John will be missed by his sons, Richard Lock and his wife, Katrina of Tarkio, Missouri, Jeffrey Otter and his wife, Sandy of Vevay, Indiana and Mike Otter and his wife, Brenda of Independence, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Eric, Tyler, Chasity, Brandon, Christopher, Matthew, Seth, Amber, Danielle and Mike; his great-grandchildren, Brenden, Kyler, Kailee, Kieran, Kolton, Braylon, Brooklyn, Lane, Christielynn, Faith, Xain, Adeline, Mikayla, Kalob, Tucker, Xander and Landon; his great-great-granddaughter, Delilah; his sister, Anna D. Sanders of Vevay, Indiana; his sister-in-law, Barbara Lock of Vevay, Indiana; his brother-in-law, Galen Purnell of Union City, Ohio and his several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Harvey Lock, Sr., died December 2, 1962 and Aileen (Lothridge) Lock, died June 15, 2003; his wife, Bonnie Jean (Purnell) Lock, died February 28, 2014; his sons, Danny Wayne Lock, died March 15, 1998 and Marty Lock, died December 8, 2008; his grandson, Patrick W. Otter, died October 2, 1986; his great-grandson, Hayden Eric Lock, died October 26, 2004; his brothers, John Hugh Lock, died December 18, 1934, Ronald Wayne Lock, died November 9, 1949, William E. Lock, died June 26, 1966 and Larry Gene Lock, died February 13, 2010; his sisters, Bessie Jane Lock, died November 16, 1950 and Beverly Sue Stephens, died April 4, 1971 and his brothers-in-law, Charles L. Purnell, died August 3, 2001 and Gary Lee Purnell, died July 13, 2015.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 14, 2019, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
