Obituary for Jonas Howard Keith

Mr. Jonas Howard Keith , age 88, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on May 13, 1932 in Allensville, Indiana. He was one of 16 children born to, James Wilford and Avis O. (Chase) Keith. He was raised in Allensville, Indiana, where he attended the Allensville High School. Jonas was inducted into the United States Army on February 25, 1953 in Indianapolis, Indiana, serving during the Korean Conflict. He earned the Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Jonas was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class on February 17, 1954 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. Jonas was united in marriage on August 1, 1958 by Rev. Frank Reed in Vevay, Indiana to Corrine Chase. This happy union was blessed with a daughter, Sondra on March 3, 1964. Jonas and Corrine shared 44 years of marriage together until she passed away on February 26, 2003. Jonas was a former employee for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana and for Army Ammunition Plant (Powder Plant) in Charlestown, Indiana. Jonas was employed for Aurora Casket Company in Aurora, Indiana, retiring at the age of 62. He was a member of the Florence Church of Christ in Florence, Indiana, where he was baptized on September 27, 1960. Jonas resided in the Florence, Indiana community since 1958. Jonas loved his dogs and enjoyed gardening, woodworking and keeping a meticulous lawn. Jonas passed away at 6:06 p.m., Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the Ripley Crossing in Milan, Indiana.

Jonas will be missed by his daughter, Sondra K. Furnish and her husband, Paul of Vevay, IN; his grandchildren, Stanley Ray Turner, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth of Rising Sun, IN and Shane Michael Turner and his wife, Ashley of Fairview, IN; his great-grandchildren, Peyton Turner, Lane Turner, Cole Turner, Josephine "Josie" Turner and Stanley "Hank" Turner, III.; his sister, Sarah M. McCreary of Allensville, IN; his brothers-in-law, Gene Roberts of Lawrenceburg, IN, William McCreary of Greendale, IN, Jerry Chase and his wife, Bernice of Belmont, OH; his sisters-in-law, Martha Keith of Center Square, IN, Ruth Ann Keith of Dillsboro, IN, Barbara Keith of Vevay, IN, Patty Chase of Vevay, IN, Peggy Sullivan of Austin, IN and Brenda Peelman of Florence, IN; his several nieces and nephews and his loyal companion dog, Blackie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Wilford and Avis O. (Chase) Keith; his wife, Corrine (Chase) Keith; his brothers, Denver, Albert Wayne, Hubert Wesley, Kirby, Paul Dean, Clifford, Leon, Wilford "Junior", Larry Keith and Roy "Red" Keith; his sisters, Juanita Koons and Hazel Knaus and an infant brother and infant sister.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, masks are required along with social distancing. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Full military rites and interment will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #53396 in the New Liberty Cemetery in East Enterprise, Indiana.
