Obituary for Joseph Michael "Joe" Cleaver

Mr. Joseph Michael "Joe" Cleaver, age 90, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on May 9, 1931 in Louisville, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Joseph Julius and Essie Sybil (Gilmore) Cleaver. He was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana where he attended St. Francis Catholic School. Joe was inducted into the United States Army in 1948. He was a paratrooper and was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class. Joe was united in marriage on June 12, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Janet Lee Finkbiner. This happy union was blessed with six children. Joe and Janet shared over 69 years of marriage together until his death. He was a truck driver for several years and was later employed for Yellow Freight in Indianapolis, Indiana, retiring in 1988 after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Teamsters Local Union #135 of Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a former member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Indianapolis American Legion Post #64. Joe enjoyed woodworking, gardening and mowing. He also loved provoking his family and friends! Joe passed away at 1:09 p.m., Friday, November 26, 2021, at his residence.

Joe will be missed by his wife, Janet Lee (Finkbiner) Cleaver of Vevay, IN; his children, Penny Lynne Kugelman of Indianapolis, IN, Patrick C. Cleaver and his wife, Doris of Indianapolis, IN, Matthew C. Cleaver and his wife, Bev of Indianapolis, IN, Cathleen M. "Cady" Brock of Petersburg, IN and Anthony D. "Tony" Cleaver and his wife, Tonya of Mooresville, IN; his 7-grandchildren, 11-great-grandchildren and 1-great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Julius and Essie Sybil (Gilmore) Cleaver; his son, Joseph Michael "Joey" Cleaver, Jr.; his granddaughter, Laura Lee Alcala; his sisters, Kathleen Haeseley and Louise Cleaver; his brothers, Jack Cleaver and Owen Lawn and his son-in-law, James Kugelman.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 1, 2021, in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
