Obituary for Lois Irene Rosenberger (Cheever)

Mrs. Lois Irene (Cheever) Rosenberger, age 92, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on November 26, 1927 in Vevay, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late Charles E. and Irene (Dufour) Cheever. She was raised in Vevay, Indiana and was a 1945 graduate of the Vevay High School. She was a 1946 graduate of Littleford-Nelson School of Business in Cincinnati, Ohio. Lois received her degree in Library Science in 1971 from the University of Cincinnati and her lifetime certification from the State of Indiana. Lois was united in marriage on June 15, 1947 at the Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church in Vevay, Indiana to the late Max. E. Rosenberger. This happy union was blessed with a son, Gary and a daughter, Lisa. Lois and Max shared nearly 59 years of marriage together until he passed away on February 15, 2006. Lois was employed as a bookkeeper for the Vevay Buick Garage and the Ford Implement Company. She was a receptionist for the Switzerland County Department of Public Welfare. She was also a policy writer for Massachusetts Bonding and Insurance Company in Indianapolis, Indiana. Lois was employed as Deputy Clerk and Clerk of the Circuit Court in Switzerland County from 1955 - 1967. From 1967 - 1968 she was the Legal Secretary for Mr. Gerald Shadday, Attorney-at-Law in Vevay, Indiana. Lois was a clerk and typist for the Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison, Indiana, from 1968 - 1969. Lois was employed as the Director for the Switzerland County Public Library from 1969 - 1976. In 1976, Lois was employed as the Assistant Librarian for Switzerland County High School until 1978. In 1978, she became the Director for the Switzerland County Public Library, retiring in December 1995, after 17 years of service. While working as the director, she served as the president of the small libraries division of the Indiana Library Federation. She also assumed the responsibility of reporting the news and events going on "Around Vevay" as a community correspondent for the Vevay Newspaper. In 1997, Lois was employed as the Receptionist and Bookkeeper for Rosenberger Law Office in Vevay, Indiana, until 2000. Lois held membership in the Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church in Vevay, Indiana, where she was the choir director, Sunday School teacher and held various other offices. Lois was the former president of the United Methodist Women in Vevay, Indiana. She was an active member of the Vevay Music Club. She was a former member of the Swiss Wine Festival committee. Lois was also a member of the Vevay Tri-Kappa and Eggleston Club. While active in Tri-Kappa Lois served as a province officer for two years, and also served on the sorority's state mental and health committee. She was an at-large member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. In 2016, Lois was a torch bearer for the Indiana bicentennial. Lois enjoyed reading, needle work, music and singing. Lois passed away with her loving family by her side at 6:33 p.m., Thursday, December 19, 2019, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana.

Lois will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Lisa K. Rosenberger and her spouse, Tammy Moore of Lamb, IN; her grandchildren, April Lynn Rosenberger of Jeffersonville, IN and Crystal Dawn Stephens and her husband, Tyler of Bloomington, IN; her great-grandchildren, Lillian Kay Dickson, Scarlette Elizabeth Stephens, and Ezekiel Edward Scott Stephens and her several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Ellsworth Cheever, died May 26, 1974 and Irene Elizabeth (Dufour) Cheever, died September 3, 1997; her husband, Max E. Rosenberger, died February 15, 2006; her son, Gary D. Rosenberger, died December 26, 1967; her sister, Lucille Roberts-Holt, died August 24, 2006 and her niece, Marcia Ann Roberts Crabtree, died July 31, 1989.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 22, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., by Pastor Roger Parrott, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
