Obituary for Lucille Phillips (Green)

Mrs. Lucille (Green) Phillips, age 88, of Vevay, Indiana, was one of 12 children born to the parents of, Andrew Peter and Sadie Mae (Peters) Green on September 26, 1934 in Switzerland County, Indiana. Lucille grew up on Plum Creek and attended Plum Creek School. She graduated from Vevay High School, class of 1952. Lucille soon met the love of her life when Marvin, Lucille's oldest brother met Trudy, Cherry's sister while he was stationed at the Marine Air Station in Cherry Point, North Carolina. Cherry enlisted into the United States Army and came to visit his sister and brother-in-law in 1949 when he met Lucille. Lucille was still in high school when she met the young soldier who would soon become her husband. After Lucille graduated, the couple was united in marriage on October 25, 1952 at the Plum Creek Baptist Church at the Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. The couple always recalled they didn't have much money, but went to Madison to the local clothing stores where they dressed them to the nines on their special day. Their love story spanned over nearly 71 years together. Their Christian beliefs were the center of their marriage. Lucille and Cherry resided in North Carolina during his military career from 1957-1965, before moving back to Switzerland County. Lucille was a lifelong member since she was a little girl at the Plum Creek Baptist Church. Lucille worked for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana for seven years and later for Richardson's Industries in Vevay, Indiana, for five years. Lucille enjoyed gardening, flowers, and helping her husband on the farm. Lucille passed away with her loving family by her side at 9:38 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2023, at her residence.

Lucille will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Cherry Simmons Phillips of Vevay, IN; her daughters, Deborah Hutchinson and her husband, Mike of Clarksville, TN and Janet Phillips and her companion, Trish Hart of Cincinnati, OH; her son, John Phillips and his wife, Pamela of Vevay, IN; her grandchildren, Barry Moley, Samantha Hughes and Cammy Smith; her great-grandchildren, Ethan, Zack, Hope, Jamie, Madison, Jacqueline and Tori; her sisters-in-law, Dollie Green of Patriot, IN and Billie Green of Vevay, IN and her numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Andrew Peter Green, died December 28, 1946; her mother, Sadie Mae (Peters) Green, died July 21, 1985; her brothers, Marvin Green, died November 27, 1967, Alan Green, died May 15, 1986, Arthur "Buddy" Green, died August 23, 2011, Charles Green, died October 19, 2015, Galen M. Green, died November 30, 2019 and Ivan Andrew Green; her sisters, Dorothy Mae Scott, died June 1, 1960, Meredith Scudder, died April 26, 2010, Mary Catherine (Green) McManis, died April 23, 2021, Alberta G. (Green) Reed, died July 8, 2021 and Linda L. (Green) Poling, died December 8, 2022; her niece, Deanna Lynn Green, died October 4, 2017 and her nephews, Wilbur "Dale" Poling, died November 11, 2019 and Michael R. Poling, died February 9, 2021.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2023, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a..m., Friday, March 3, 2023, by Rev. Mike Jones, at the Vevay Cemetery in Vevay, Indiana.
