Obituary for Mariam Hammond (Ellis)

Mariam (Ellis) Hammond, age 83, of Indianapolis, Indiana, formerly of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on June 16, 1937 in Switzerland County, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late Wilbur and Beatrice Lillian (Waller) Ellis. She was raised in Aberdeen, Indiana and attended school in Florence, Indiana. Mariam was employed for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana for 43 years until it closed in 2000. She was also employed for Vevay IGA and Vevay Super Value for several years and as a greeter for Walmart in Aurora, Indiana for several years. Mariam attended Fairview Baptist Church and Concord Community Church. She was a member of the Switzerland County Historical Society, Youth Board of Ohio County for five years and the Ohio County 4-H Fair Board for ten years. Mariam enjoyed going to craft shows on the weekends for over 20 years in Indianapolis, Indiana. Mariam passed away at 5:20 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2020, at the Aspen Trace in Greenwood, Indiana.

Mariam will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Sharon Kidwell of Indianapolis, IN and Karen Peters and her husband, Dennis of Seymour, IN; her grandchildren, Heather Harris and her husband, Gabe of Noblesville, IN and Brandon Peters and his wife, Kim of New Palestine, IN; her great-grandchildren, Cooper James Harris and Emerson Ann Harris; her sister, Wilma "Jeannie" Hammond of Aberdeen, IN and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur Ellis, died December 23, 1981 and Beatrice Lillian (Waller) Ellis, died October 11, 1989; her sisters, Opal Lucille (Ellis) Scott, died April 30, 2003 and Eleanor C. Stephenson, died May 15, 2003.

Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 3, 2020, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 3, 2020, by Rev. Steve Ward, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
