Obituary for Marion Alford "Sarge" Turner

Mr. Marion Alford "Sarge" Turner, age 88, of Moorefield, Indiana, entered this life on September 12, 1931 in Patriot, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Thomas and Lula B. (Smith) Turner. He was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana where he attended school. Sarge was inducted into the United States Army on November 9, 1948 in Madison, Indiana. He served during the Korean and Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal with Valor Device. Sarge was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant First Class on July 31, 1969 at Fort Knox, Kentucky after serving his country for 20 years, 9 months and 22 days. Sarge was united in marriage to the late Hazel Lorraine Jones on October 23, 1954 at Mt. Zion Nazarene Church. This happy union was blessed with a daughter Peggy Ann. Sarge and Hazel shared nearly 57 years of marriage together until she passed away on June 13, 2011. He was employed for Reliance Electric Company in Madison, Indiana retiring after several years of service. Sarge was a member of the old Mt. Zion Nazarene Church near Five Points, Indiana and Bear Creek Coon Hunters & Conservation Club. Sarge enjoyed farming and raising tobacco, coon hunting and gambling. Sarge passed away at 5:50 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at the River Terrace Health Campus in Madison, Indiana.

Sarge will be missed by his daughter, Peggy Ann Yount and her husband, Willie of Madison, Indiana; his granddaughter, Haley Yount-Janusiewicz and her husband, John of Fishers, Indiana; his grandson, Jim Semlor of Glendale, Washington; his great-grandchildren, Ethan, Kai, Eve, Logan, Anna, Eva and Drew; his sister, Vella Hufford of Mobile, Alabama; his brothers, Tommy Turner of Rising Sun, IN and George Turner of Moores Hill, IN and his several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Lula B. (Smith) Turner; his wife, Hazel Lorraine (Jones) Turner; his sister, Edith Virginia Martin and his brother, Dave Turner.

Private Graveside Services and Full Military Rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Five Points, Indiana.
