Life Story for Nelda Clara McKay Kinman (Wilson)

Mrs. Nelda Clara (Wilson) McKay Kinman, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home at the High Point Community in Brooksville, Florida surrounded by her children on Tuesday, April 9th, 2019. Nelda was born on August 27, 1927, on the family farm in Switzerland County, Indiana on State Road 250 near Quercus Grove. She was the third child born to her loving parents, Charles Rueben and Marguerite Francis (McCann) Wilson. Nelda had one brother, Jackie and two sisters, Marie and Peggy. Nelda was raised in Switzerland County and attended Patriot School’s for which she was very proud of. She had many talents and dreams. She started playing the piano by ear when she was three years old knowing hundreds of songs. She continued playing until a week before her death. She sought to be a dress designer or fabric designer, often making her own clothes. Nelda was a strong Christian faith based individual being saved at a young age. She worked as a candy striper in Cincinnati at Deaconess Hospital up through her teenage years. She was active in church, community, 4-H programs, and was very patriotic and proud to be an American. Nelda also loved gardening. Nelda married Thomas Harold McKay of Vevay, Indiana on June 8th, 1946. This happy union was blessed with four children, Thomas Dyer, Richard Wilson, Lois Cheri and Russell Lee. Nelda was a loving and dedicated mother. As the family was growing up, many children called her Mom. The children were always loved and welcomed for a hug, a talk and a meal, etc. Nelda held many jobs in the community, homemaking, PTA President, Matron for the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department, multitasking, playing the piano, housekeeping and food service for the Swiss Inn. She moved to Cincinnati, Ohio for a few years after being widowed on January 24th, 1977. There she worked at several jobs and retired from Buskins Bakery. She moved back to the Rising Sun, Indiana community. On June 17th, 2001, Nelda married Robert Kinman from Rising Sun, Indiana. Robert and Nelda had a wonderful marriage for 14 years in Brooksville, Florida until his death on January 30th, 2014. Nelda remained in her home lovingly cared for by her children. Her son, Rick cared for her every need for the last several years until her passing on April 9th, 2019. Heaven gained a very special angel.

Nelda is survived by her children, Thomas McKay and his wife, Kathy of Rising Sun, Indiana, Rick McKay and his wife, Tina of Brooksville, Florida and Lois McKay of Patriot, Indiana and Russell McKay and his wife, Roberta of Patriot, Indiana; her grandchildren, Tommy, Joe, Rusty, Zack, Aaron, Shelly, Anna, Kelsi, Trevor and Wilson; her several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Rueben and Marguerite Francis (McCann) Wilson; her 1st husband, Thomas Harold McKay; her 2nd husband, Robert Kinman; her brother, Jackie and her sisters, Marie and Peggy.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on April 27th, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at the Patriot Baptist Church, 156 Main Street, Patriot, Indiana 47038. Dinner will follow at the Patriot Town Hall in Patriot, Indiana.
