Obituary for Raymond Lee Surber

Mr. Raymond Lee Surber, age 74, of Milton, Kentucky, entered this life on August 6, 1947 in Shelbyville, Indiana. Raymond was the son of Glenn Joseph and Geraldine Edna (Bosaw) Surber, both of whom preceded him in death. He was raised in Vevay, Indiana where he attended school. At the young age of 19, Raymond was inducted into the United States Army on October 6, 1966 in Louisville, Kentucky. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, One Overseas Service Bar, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal and the Army Commendation Medal for his heroism in Vietnam. Raymond was transferred to the United States Army Reserves on October 4, 1968 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on October 5, 1972. In 1974, Raymond became a member of the Carpenters Union Local #795 of Terre Haute, Indiana. He worked in Madison, Versailles and Hanover, Indiana, retiring in 2007 after 33 years of service. After retirement, Raymond continued remodeling homes, roofing and maintenance and plumbing jobs for various people. He was a member of the Jefferson Post 9 in Madison, Indiana. Raymond enjoyed fishing and lottery scratch-offs, as well as, socializing with family and friends and telling stories. Raymond passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at his residence in Milton, Kentucky.

Raymond will be deeply missed by his daughter, LeeAnn Carr and her husband, Jason of Vevay, Indiana and Joleen Surber and her fiancé, Timothy McAlister of Fairbanks, Alaska; his grandchildren, Darrian Swim, Jade Carr and Jace Carr; his great-grandchildren, Rhyland and Layla Swim; his sister, Martha Lovelace of Vevay, Indiana; his brother, Herman Surber of Vevay, Indiana and his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Joseph and Geraldine Edna (Bosaw) Surber; his brother, Roy Chester Surber and his sister, Harriett Harlow.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 12, 2021, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 12, 2021, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment and full military rites will be conducted by the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
