Obituary for Roy "Wayne" Hopper

Mr. Roy "Wayne" Hopper, age 77, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on July 6, 1942 on Bradford Road in Switzerland County, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Earl Joseph and Cleta I. (Coy) Hopper. He was raised in Switzerland County where he attended Vevay High School. Wayne was inducted into the United States Army on February 5, 1964 in Louisville, Kentucky. He served during the Vietnam War and received the Sharpshooter (Rifle M-14) Badge. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Private First Class on January 31, 1970. Wayne was united in marriage on February 10, 1967 at the Switzerland Baptist Church in Vevay, Indiana to Mary Ann Hamby. This happy union was blessed with a son, Terry Wayne Hopper. They renewed their vows on their 50th wedding anniversary at the Fairview Baptist Church by Bro. Hobert Byrd where they hold membership. Wayne and Mary Ann shared over 52 years of marriage together until his death. Wayne was employed for Stedman's Foundry in Aurora, Indiana for six months and for Randall's Textron in Vevay, Indiana for six months. He was employed in maintenance for Hilltop Basic Resources in Patriot, Indiana, from 1972 - 1999. He was also employed in maintenance for the Greater Cincinnati Airport and drove for the Amish for several years. Wayne enjoyed NASCAR, tinkering on cars, attending truck and tractor pulls and his little dogs. Wayne passed away at 2:47 p.m., Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at the Hosparus Health Inpatient Care Center in Louisville, Kentucky.

Wayne will be missed by his wife, Mary Ann (Hamby) Hopper of Vevay, IN; his son, Terry Wayne Hopper and his companion, Stephanie Greenwood of Vevay, IN; his grandson, Christopher Wayne Hopper of Madison, IN; his several great-grandchildren; his brothers, Loren Hopper and his wife, Kathy of Mt. Sterling, IN and Gordie Hopper and his wife, Marlene of Lansing, MI; his sisters, Carole Jeane (Hopper) Webb of Center Square, IN and Janice Clay of Vevay, IN; his sister-in-law, Janet Hopper of DeWitt, MI and his several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Joseph and Cleta I. (Coy) Hopper and his brothers, Russell and Paul Hopper.

Friends may call 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 22, 2019, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 23, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., by Bro. Hobert Byrd at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment and full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
