Life Story for Velma Eveline "Nan" Allen (Derringer)

Mrs. Velma Eveline "Nan" (Derringer) Allen , age 92, of Fairview, Indiana, entered this life on February 24, 1927, in Casey County, Kentucky. She was the loving daughter of the late, James Thomas and Ida Mae (Hughett) Derringer. She was raised in Casey County, Kentucky where she attended school. Velma was united in marriage on June 26, 1948, in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, to the late, Kenneth "Ken" Allen. This happy union was blessed with two daughters, Linda and Deborah. Velma and Ken shared over 60 years of marriage together until he passed away on November 28, 2008. Velma was employed as a cook for Lakota High School in Hamilton, Ohio for eight years and for MacGregor Golf Course. She owned and operated Fairview Sawmill for six years and farmed all of her life. Velma resided for the past 47 years in the Fairview community and attended Mt. Sterling Baptist Church. Velma enjoyed working in her flower beds, gardening and mowing. Velma passed away at 4:20 a.m., Saturday, July 27, 2019, at her residence in Fairview, Indiana.

Velma will be missed by her daughter, Linda Franzone and her husband, Stanley of Ridgeland, SC; her son-in-law, John Griffin of Vevay, IN; her grandchildren, Christy, Jordan, Susan, Laura and Adam; her 17-great-grandchildren, her 4-great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Joyce Atwood of San Diego, CA and her several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Thomas and Ida Mae (Hughett) Derringer; her husband, Kenneth "Ken" Allen; her daughter, Deborah Kay Griffin; her sisters, Martha Jean Flory, Dorothy Scott, Genevia Dolch and Gracie Emma Taylor and her brothers, James Thomas Derringer, II., Clifton Derringer, William Derringer, T. Russell Derringer and Rodrick Derringer.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 3, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., by Bro. Artie Privett, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Olive Branch Cemetery, Bear Branch, Indiana.
