Obituary for Wilma L. Cole (Works)
Mrs. Wilma L. (Works) Cole, age 89, of Vevay, Indiana, formerly of Fairview, Indiana, entered this life on December 17, 1930 in Allensville, Indiana. She was the loving daughter of the late Jesse Floyd and Carrie Augusta (Slack) Works. She was raised in Allensville, Indiana and was a 1949 graduate of Vevay High School. After graduation, Wilma was employed for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana for 1 year. Wilma was united in marriage to the late Wilfred Lawrence Cole on June 17, 1950 in Vevay, Indiana by Rev. Frank Reed. Wilma and Wilfred shared over 59 years of marriage together until he passed away on October 14, 2009. Wilma was a former cook for the Switzerland County Elementary School in East Enterprise, Indiana, retiring in 2006 after 20 years of service. During the summer months she was a cook for Camp Livingston in Bennington, Indiana and for Ogle Haus in Vevay, Indiana. Wilma was a member of the Allensville United Methodist Church and attended Fairview United Methodist Church. Wilma passed away at 12:50 p.m., Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at her residence.
Wilma will be missed by her daughter, Mitzi Higgins of Fairview, IN; her son, Mike Cole and his wife, Brenda of Vevay, IN; her grandchildren, Heidi Higgins and her companion, Danny Knotts, Chad Higgins and his wife, Crystal of Bennington, IN, Dustin Higgins and his companion, Jessica Hendrix; her great-grandchildren, Heather Weaver, Cody Knotts, Hailey Gerster, Courtney Higgins, Alanna Taylor and Scotty Hendrix; her great-great-grandchild, Haydan Bussel; her brothers, Dale Works and his wife, Betty of Rising Sun, IN and Tommie Works and his wife, Rita of Allensville, IN; her sister, Betty Mulvany of Brookville, IN and her numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Floyd Works, died December 3, 1967 and Carrie Augusta (Slack) Works, died November 2, 1986; her husband, Wilfred Lawrence Cole, died October 14, 2009; her granddaughter, Heather Lynn Higgins, died in 1975; her brothers, Gerald Nolan Works, died July 21, 1994, Edwin Loren Works, died January 30, 1996, Warren D. Works, died March 18, 2010 and Donald Leroy Works, died May 29, 2011 and her sister, Lois A. (Works) Wells.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2020, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2020, by Rev. Mike Jones, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.
