Life Story for Walter Dewitt "Bud" Champe Jr.

Walter Dewitt "Bud"  Champe Jr.
Mr. Walter Dewitt Champe, Jr., age 78, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on February 7, 1937, in Elyria, Ohio, the son of the late, Walter D. and Virginia C. Champe. He was a 1955 graduate of the Oberlin High School. Bud earned his degree in Psychology in 1959 from the Central State University where he was a swimming champion competing throughout the United States. At Central State he was enrolled in the ROTC Program graduating as 2nd Lt. He served three years in the Army in the 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles." He attended BGSU receiving a Masters degree in Public Administration and worked towards his PhD at Boston University. Bud was a 33 degree Mason with the United Supreme Council of Ohio. Bud taught at the Shaw High School in East Cleveland, Ohio and later began his career with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. For over 27 years he worked in various capacities, retiring as the Area Director of the San Diego Office. Walter died at 11:00 am, Monday, October 12, 2015, at his residence in Vevay, Indiana.

Walter will be missed by his companion: Cheryl Ann Janes of Vevay, IN; his sons: Monte S. Champe & Sean M. Champe; his grandchildren: Antuania, Mia, Anthony, Preston, Marcus & Nalani McFarland, Sean, Sheridan & Sydney Champe; his great-grandchildren: Kayson, Aubree, Adrain, Carter & Skylar McFarland & Carson Champe; his brother: Mervin L. Champe; his several nieces, nephews & cousins & his caregivers: Nancy Ledbetter & Barbara Stinson

He was preceded in death by his parents: Walter D. & Virginia C. Champe; his brother: Gary M. Champe & his nephew: Derrick T. Champe.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, October 16, 2015, at 11:00 am, by at the Cowling Funeral Home, 228 South Main Street Oberlin, Ohio 44074.

Interment will follow in the Westwood Cemetery, Oberlin, Ohio.

Friends may call 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday, October 15, 2015, at the Cowling Funeral Home 228 South Main Street Oberlin, Ohio 44074.
