Life Story for Timothy Louis "Tim" Swango

Timothy Louis "Tim"  Swango
Mr. Timothy Louis "Tim" Swango, age 70, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on April 22, 1945, in Madison, Indiana, the loving son of, Robert O. "Bob" and Elizabeth Jean "Betty" (Rosenberger) Swango. He was raised in Vevay, Indiana where he was a 1964 graduate of the Vevay High School. He received his welding certificate and Associate's Degree from Ivy Tech Community College. He was inducted into the United States Air Force on January 31, 1969 at Homestead Air Force Base serving during the Vietnam War. He received the Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Tim was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant on July 28, 1972 in Vevay, Indiana. Tim was united in marriage on June 7, 1975, at Max and Lois Rosenberger's home in Vevay, Indiana, to Wilma Sue Dickerson and to this union arrived two daughters, Erin and Elyssa and a son, Pete to bless their home. Tim and Wilma shared 40 loving years of marriage together until his death. Tim enjoyed coaching the elementary boys basketball, 7th grade girls basketball, varsity girls track and varsity girls cross country for the Switzerland County School Corporation. He was assistant coach for the varsity girls basketball for the Switzerland County High School. Tim also coached legion baseball, girls softball and AAU basketball. He was also the In School Suspension Coordinator at the Switzerland County High School for several years. He was a former Clerk for the United States Postal Service in Florence, Kentucky, from 1981 to 1990. He was a member of the Vevay Park Board and the Switzerland County Election Board. He attended the Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church and was a former member of the church choir. He was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 where he served as Honor Guard. He was also a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, 40 & 8 Voiture Locale #612, Edelweiss Singers and Vevay White Stockings Vintage Baseball Team. Tim enjoyed sports, Cincinnati Bengals football, Pacer athletics, Cincinnati Reds, IU basketball and his adoring grandchildren. Tim will be dearly missed by his loving family, friends and his community. Tim passed away with his loving family by his side at 8:20 pm, Thursday, December 10, 2015, at the VA Community Living Center in Fort Thomas, Kentucky.

Tim will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 40 years: Wilma Sue (Dickerson) Swango of Vevay, IN; his daughters: Erin Shea & her husband: Mike of West Chester, OH & Elyssa Haskell & her husband: Andy of Bennington, IN; his son: Pete Swango & his wife: Brianne of Vevay, IN; his father & step-mother: Robert O. "Bob" & Jane Swango of Anderson, IN; his grandchildren: Calleigh, Ezra, Casen, Zachary, Colin, Pierce, Carter, Niyah & Lincoln; his sister: Jan Emerson of New York, NY; his brother: Mike Swango & his wife: Pat of Anderson, IN; his sister-in-laws: Nancy Riley & her husband: Kevin Zurchin of Anderson, IN & Tina Peelman & her husband: Terry of Vevay, IN; his close cousin: Lisa Rosenberger & her spouse: Tammy Moore of Vevay, IN; his aunt: Lois Rosenberger of Vevay, IN & his several nieces, nephews & other cousins

He was preceded in death by his mother: Elizabeth Jean "Betty" (Rosenberger) Swango, died October 22, 2002.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at 12:00 pm, by Pastor Roger Parrott, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana. Full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185, the Vevay VFW Post #5396 and the Wright-Patterson Air Force Unit at the cemetery.

Friends may call 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Monday, December 14, 2015, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

40 & 8 Voiture Locale #612 will conduct services Monday, December 14, 2015 at 7:30 pm, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Swango Endowment Fund % Community Foundation of Switzerland County or to the 40 & 8 Nurses Scholarship. Cards are available at the funeral home.
