Life Story for Mildred "Millie" (Newton) Coy

Mildred "Millie" (Newton)  Coy
Mildred "Millie" (Newton) Coy, age 90, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on September 14, 1922, in Orange County, Indiana, the loving daughter of the late, Fredrick C. & Gladys (Henson) Newton. She was raised in French Lick, Indiana, until the age of 12 & moved to Vevay, Indiana, where she graduated in 1940 at the Vevay High School. In 1941, Millie attended the Indiana Business College, for 1 year. Millie was united in marriage on August 24, 1957 in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to the late, William Russell Coy & to this union arrived one daughter & one son to bless their home. Millie & William shared nearly 15 years of marriage together until his death on April 19, 1972. Millie was former Switzerland County Treasurer & was employed in the Switzerland County Auditor's Office in Vevay, Indiana. She was employed as a Bookkeeper & Automotive Sales Consultant at the Buick Garage for John Middleton, for several years. She was also a former Bookkeeper at Slawson Garage in Vevay, Indiana. She was employed at the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Indiana, for several years. Millie was employed, during World War II at the Charlestown Powder Plant as a Bore Sighter in Charlestown, Indiana. Millie was a member of the Switzerland County Democratic Party, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #185 & the Vevay VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #5396. She was also a member of the French Lick United Methodist Church in French Lick, Indiana. Millie will be remembered for her love of playing cards, especially Euchre, watching sports on the television, but most of all, watching her grandchildren play sports, reading 2 newspapers daily & reading political books. Millie was a devoted mother, grandmother & aunt. Millie died at 6:20 am, Sunday, July 14, 2013, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, Indiana.

Millie will be missed by her daughter: Gail Ann Clements of Fairfield, OH; her son: W. Greg Coy & his wife: Barb of Vevay, IN; her grandchildren: Allison Clements-Dumford & her husband: Ben of Columbus, OH, Derrick Coy & his wife: Kelli of Evansville, IN, Devin Coy of Vevay, IN & Erika Coy of Vevay, IN; her great-grandchildren: Hayley Coy, Hannah Coy & Eli Dumford; her nieces: Margaret Taylor & Cindy Newton; her nephews: Paul Newton, David Newton & Dale Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Fredrick C. & Gladys (Henson) Newton; her husband: William Russell Coy, died April 19, 1972; her brothers: Richard Newton & Henry Newton; her nephew: Fred Newton.

Graveside services will be conducted Friday, July 19, 2013, at 1:00 pm, by Rev. Ronald Sandidge, at the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana.

Friends may call 11:00 am - 1:00 pm Friday, July 19, 2013, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.
