Life Story for Wilford Conway "Bill" Dickerson

Wilford Conway "Bill"  Dickerson
Mr. Wilford Conway "Bill" Dickerson, Sr., age 92, of Patriot, Indiana, entered this life on November 17, 1922, in Aberdeen, Indiana, the loving son of the late, Ira Emmett and Gertrude (Nix) Dickerson. He was raised in Owenton, Kentucky where he attended school. Bill was inducted into the United States Army on January 25, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky, serving during World War II. He received the EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Purple Heart Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. Bill was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant on December 12, 1945 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. Bill was united in marriage on June 10, 1944, in Columbus, Kansas, to the late, Jewell Ray "Judy" Clemons and to this union arrived three sons, Rod, Sonny and Randy and two daughters, Judith and Toy to bless their home. Bill and Judy shared nearly 69 loving years of marriage together until Judy passed away on February 23, 2013. Bill was a farmer at heart and enjoyed farming most of his life. He also was a logger for many years. Bill co-owned and co-operated with his loving wife, the Phillips 66 Gas Station, from 1964 to 1975, the Patriot Carry Out and the Pool Room all in Patriot, Indiana. He resided most of his life in the Patriot community. Bill was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Olive Branch Baptist Church. Bill enjoyed antiquing, woodworking, refinishing furniture, spending time with his family, mowing and keeping a meticulous lawn. Bill died at 8:06 am, Friday, August 21, 2015, at his residence in Patriot, Indiana.

Bill will be dearly missed by his daughters: Judith Langford & her husband: Mick of Reno, NV & Priscilla "Toy" Smith & her husband: Gardy of Rising Sun, IN; his sons: Wilford Conway "Sonny" Dickerson, Jr. & his wife: Kelli of Rising Sun, IN, Rod Dickerson & his wife: Sue of Vevay, IN & Randy Dickerson & his wife: Michelle of Vevay, IN; his grandchildren: Donna, Stephanie, Brian, Kami, Carol, Ginger, Babee, Troy, Daniele, Derek, Rachel, Tracy, Mark, Eric, Erin, Kristen, Staci, Shea, Jesse, Jade & Joshua; his 46-great-grandchildren & 28-great-great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law: Pansy Bradford & her husband: Wesley of Cookson Bend, OK & his several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Ira Emmett & Gertrude (Nix) Dickerson; his loving wife of nearly 69 years: Jewell Ray "Judy" (Clemons) Dickerson, died February 23, 2013; his grandson: Shawn David Dickerson; his granddaughter: Jewell Ann Dickerson; his great-grandson: Joshua Tyler Detoff; his sisters: Geraldine Konradi & Arahwanna Dickerson & his brother: James Earl Dickerson.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 25, 2015, at 11:00 am, by Pastor Patrick Lanman, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.

Interment will follow in the Eastview Cemetery, Patriot, Indiana.

Full military rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 at the cemetery.

Friends may call 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Monday, August 24, 2015, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043.
