Obituary

Obituary for Thelma Sue Osborn (Roark)

Mrs. Thelma Sue (Roark) Osborn, age 67, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on April 10, 1953 at their home in Letcher County, Kentucky. She was one of 17 children born to the late Lue and Arnie (Caudill) Roark. She was raised in Vevay, Indiana where she attended the Switzerland County High School. Thelma was united in marriage on September 13, 1970 in Sunman, Indiana to Baxter Osborn, Sr. and from this union they were blessed with three sons, Baxter, Jr., Neal and Steven. Thelma and Baxter shared nearly 50 years of marriage together until her death. Thelma was employed for the US Shoe Factory in Vevay, Osgood and Madison, Indiana, retiring after 27 years of service. She was a member of the Little Memory Old Regular Baptist Church in Sunman, Indiana. Thelma was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She treasured her boys and grandbabies and embraced every moment with them. Thelma was a dedicated mother and grandmother first and foremost. She especially loved her role as Mamaw. Thelma enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels outside her window, playing cards and sewing. She also enjoyed going to bingo and, as it seemed, she was the only one walking away a winner! Thelma also loved girl's night with her sisters where they would play cards, reminisce and enjoyed one another's cooking. Thelma leaves an emptiness in our hearts that will never be filled. Thelma passed away at 11:47 a.m., Tuesday, June 23, 2020, at the University of Cincinnati Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Thelma will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Baxter Osborn, Sr. of Vevay, IN; her sons, Neal Osborn and his wife, Lisa of Vevay, IN and Steven Osborn and his wife, Brittany of Vevay, IN; her grandchildren, Jessica Shackleford and her husband, Steven, Ashley Marcum and her husband, John, Brooklyn Osborn, Rivers Osborn and David Carter; her great-grandchildren, Abby Shackleford and Brayden and Kylie Marcum; her brothers, Harley Roark and his wife, Mildred of Holton, IN, James Roark and his wife, Dana of Holton, IN, John Roark and his wife, Linda of Madison, IN, Joe Roark and his wife, Debbie of Osgood, IN and Mark Roark and his wife, Teresa of Linefork, KY; her sisters, Bonnie Kieffer and her husband, Bo of Osgood, IN, Bonita Halcomb of Linefork, KY, Tina Wingate and her husband, Jim of Canaan, IN and Martha Hammons of Canaan, IN and her numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lue Roark, died November 14, 1978 and Arnie (Caudill) Roark, died May 26, 1959; her step-mother, Minnie Roark, died February 4, 1983; her son, Baxter Osborn, Jr., died January 1, 1972; her brother, Charles A. Dear Baxter, Steve, Neal, and Osborn & Roark families,
My heart goes out to each of you over the passing of such a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Thelma was always sweet and welcoming to us when we visited or texted back and forth. We joked about how much we enjoyed spoiling our grandkids. I told Thelma a couple of times how thankful I was that she and Baxter had raised Steve to be such an outstanding man since he was our son-in-law. It tickled her that I expressed that to her; and she said she was very proud of both of her boys. She also assured me more than once that she loved Brittany like a daughter; and that she would watch out for her since we were so far away. I hope she knew how much that meant to us. It was certainly obvious how much she loved her family and the Lord. I know y'all will miss her deeply; but I hope it is of some comfort to know that she is having a glorious reunion in Heaven with no pain or health problems to worry about. Please know that we will keep y'all in our prayers. Our Lord and Savior will comfort you as only He can. Sending our love and support.....
Love,
Denise Thompson
